Currently the children/project has several pressing financial needs. The rising costs in Uganda have sent the price of several items rocketing. The posho and beans, which is used as meals for the children is the only relatively cheaper, however, if eaten so routinely children get disgusted with it and request for change in diet which is so expensive for the orphanage/directors to afford, for the price is most likely outrageous.

Recently, the orphanage collected some funds to purchase land and supplies to build a new permanent site for it. The working group of volunteers though, made an internal decision to use that money to at least pay more rent, put up fence around the school against strangers, purchase food and other everyday goods for the children to survive before using it toward the purchase and construction of the new site. However, this never changed our big need of land and construction of a new permanent site. as illustrated in the photos below:

The orphanage is also trying to source finance for the purchase of a vehicle, such as a van to transport up to atleast fourteen (14) to twenty eight (28) of the orphans at one time, the van costs over us $35000 . Mind Uganda requests any Good Samaritan, a good volunteer to fund raise enough money to provide this need to the orphanage. Nevertheless, even if the vehicle is acquired, the fuel for it is another financial hurdle/concern for the organization directors.

Despite the above pressing needs, everything at kawempe standard junior school is in a sorry state; The buildings used are for rent, poor and not furnished, missing some window screens so mosquitoes enter freely, this causes malaria, without any piped water imagine the kind of hygiene, the dormitories are also poor, toilets inclusive as portrayed in the images above, the kitchen is also in a sorry state without a dinning room as illustrated below; all these need financial support which directors cannot afford to provide, some children currently are sleeping on floor mats, poor and shaky bunk beds some thing that needs to be improved on also.

This is the outside toilet the smaller one on left is the urinal

The purchase of window screens and installing them costs $10000, buying paint and painting the entire building costs $ 12000, renovation of staff quarters that are currently leaking when it rains costs $ 8000, buying up new bunk beds for children to sleep on costs $ 1400, installation of piped water and doors costs $ 13000, construction of a kitchen and a dinning room costs costs $ 15000, renovation of toilets and bathrooms costs $ 16000, paying off water and electricity bills costs $ 12000, the total cost will come to over US$87,400 the amount that directors cannot raise unless helped by a good samaritan, volunteer, sponsor, donor and well wisher.

Having enough money to increase staff salaries to improve on their livelihood and motivate them to better performance is just another financial concern for the directors. Each staff member is paid $100 a month for a classroom teacher, where as the headteacher earn $150 a month, and non teaching staffs earns around $80 a month. It’s at this point therefore; that mind volunteers Uganda requests for any volunteer, sponsor or donor to come out and help these Ugandan children to meet their bright future.
